That’s pretty sketchy

These sketches are quick studies I did in a location which I am considering to bring into my studio. The location is an untouched part of land which sits outside a new developing part of Kirikiriroa (Hamilton), these spaces are under pressure of housing development, once void of modern civilisation it now sits along building and infrastructure, hidden in plain sight.

Thick dense foliage of trees struggle to mute the sound of passing cars and trucks which have slowly started to seep in through the limited gaps of the trees.

These drawings are quick observational drawings highlighting the left behind ecosystems, although they appear untouched by civilisation, the modern world seems to be catching up to these few spaces left. I use the black paper as I wished to test out how I could focus solely on the light which is penetrating through the trees to reach to forests floor, I use the printing paper to understand what shapes of trees and layering is occurring within these spaces.
