A material which I had recently used was concrete panels, these panels were interesting and opened my eyes to new possibilities, the material was one which is so familiar to construction, it is a material which is found everywhere.

Choosing what type of mix I wanted to use. Purchased from Bunnings.
Frames have been made to create these 450 mm x 270 mm tiles. I am hoping to make multiple of them and create a ride like painting, this to represent walk way concrete tiles, the size is transportable to fit I’m my back pack with I often wear to these places.
I have also included paint dried incorporated, these are taken from house paint test pots and other forms of dried house paints found from various sites, some collected over the years some found off of abandoned paint buckets from house development and the large bins around them for discarded materials.
Above is a bunch of dried paint I have collected and found around the place, there are also parts of coloured plastics and other materials left over, these materials take long to decompose, the plastics do not break down as fast so I don’t mind taking them if left, I also reuse the test pots if there is one around or paint bucket.
Sorting tiles thinking I would only use 9 but decided on a 3 x 4 grid as it looked more filling and not as narrow.
I have been testing out how I will lay the tiles, which blocks go where and fleshing out the wanted landscape with some gesso, it will be ever changing and may move tiles around, there is no set placement as of now.
This work by Ashleigh Taupaki which was a part of WYF: Where you from? showing at Te Uru gallery, has imprints of plants and an almost landscape pressed into concrete. Plants which look to be harakeke / flax, rocks or gravel reside down the bottom of the cube solidifying an almost ground to the work.
