Re-imaginations of an EOY installation. This install looked out the progression and alterations of my End of Year 2020 show, I wanted to install similar objects but in another iteration that could speak to the concrete works as more individual and object oriented compared to a more ‘canvas’ like composition. My hope was to explore possibilities in install and in material investigation through looking at the show after 2-3 months. I added a bowl with the leaf litter next to a black book which looked at native species found in some of these landscapes. Seeds separated into little glass jars were elevated with a concrete brick relating to the works on the wall, these seeds were all native and caught in the seed-fall catcher.
In this install variation of the set up I separated the concrete blocks to remove the ‘final’ image, instead letting them play off a smaller range or even holding the wall space for themselves. I found that giving them this room allowed the works to emphasis their object and material qualities.
Collecting the litterer I then separate the seeds and the leaf fall into visible groups indicating their belonging and flora that they might come from, sticks that were similar were stacked together as were leaves and seeds.
Included in the set up were also the concrete brick with a salvaged piece of wood with the seeds and also the book and bowl of leaf litter sitting in front of a video.
The glass jars had lids made of re used clay, I tested this out to see how a potential of materials could help to cover or hold other materials, almost encasing the seeds, this idea came from the seed vault which hosts millions of Earths plant seeds.
