Works and ideas for consideration moving forward, idea, installation, presentation and how to navigate how and what I am working with / about.
Jae Hoon Lee, Akiko Ueda, Nancy Lupo.

Jae Hoon Lee, Stranger in strange lands, 2015.

“This landscape doesn’t exist in reality; instead it is comprised of a series of images of real locations that have been multiplied and manipulated, anchoring it in the realm between fact and fiction.” (Dunedin Public art gallery, 2016)

The ideas coming from this installation and the way Lee plays with the approach to imagery resonate and make me ponder how I am dealing with the imagery that I am using and attempting to depict. “This landscape doesn’t exist in reality” touches on the manipulated and said to be between “fact and fiction”. I enjoy the idea of how imagery can become something removed from the original source but still encapsulate the audience or note at that, the information isn’t being lost even if manipulated but in some ways helps question positioning in reality. Having such large works and projections helps create a more interactive experience for the audience and give a slight fantastic or over whelming feeling to the work through scale, senses are brought into the work rather than being distracted by the surrounding.

Akiko Ueda, A Walk of Broken Theatre, 2021.

A mixture of formal elements opposed to different approaches to surface, a canvas hung by its corner giving a diamond like shape, some works are draped without backings flat against the wall, others on backed canvas. I enjoy the depictions and breaking up of imagery, colours have been considers, revealing and shaping each work. The sizes of work vary and work well towards the show, figures are also placed but do not dominate the paintings although in some works seem to be the main focus.

There are ideas which I am curious into bringing into my own practise, playing with material, size and how depiction can help with understanding or hinting information within a work, how much is too much how much information do I want the audience to have or create.
How can the same material be used in different ways to highlight separate ideas but similar approaches, adding and elevating both material and content / context.

NANCY LUPO, OPEN MOUTH, 05 OCTOBER 2019. (PERSHING SQUARE, LOS ANGELES)

(Talking about work, practice and installation)

“Objects in our every day that are often over looked”
“16 cast aluminum benches, audience is allowed to sit on them”
How the audience interacts and moves through space, an archive through repetition.
“rational structure and dream like space”
work was initially outside, presented in gallery spaces as well, how work can work in different areas.

Replication and a model, full scale object existing, but also other scales and sizes.
How we (society) use the object, and how is it to remove the object from its space.
