Mid year Install ideas

Sketch-up floor plans, ideas and lay outs of how I would like the show to be set up. A projection, a couple of material / abstract paintings and a large or longer painting.

Statement: Long walks / discovery of thoughts.

Trees lifeless, slowly fall apart withering away into the ground, preparing the soil for the next season to sprout. Leaves carpet the walk ways bleeding into civility, residents push sidewalks clear, enjoying the cleanliness of dirty grey brick paths. I think the leaves look cute with their fading yellows getting stomped into the pavement.

Land gets broken up for new housing, earth is up turned and shifted around changing the landscape over the years. Barriers slice through the land, pavements snake alongside these rails, painted in a dark green to blend the metal into the green of the landscape, once again slicing it into sections.

Painted over multiple visits, these paintings are an accumulation of different times, places within Kirikiriroa, from new developments around Ngāruawāhia to new developments down river in Tamahere.

Materials reflect both housing development and path construction along the river, ply wood holds the foundation for the large work spanning over 3 separate panels creating one singular work.

I place myself awkwardly into the painting, repeated exploring separate sections, I am only an idea of myself not fully fleshed out, these paths are a place which captures my thoughts.

Works:

‘Point of view’ – large long work 3600 mm x 1200 mm

‘Blue prints’ – Projection, mylar and blue sharpie

Materials – smaller works

Large work painting is on 3 panels 1.2 m x 1.2 m. I enjoy the size of these works in relation to walking, passing and the breaking up of panels allow different sections to be observed as singular or together, this is an idea which I have been curious of in my work, work can be shifted and moved around. colours come from images, mind memory and colour samples.

A couple drawing / projection drawings on mylar sheets, the last image is an example of layered sheets, including the top middle image. These sheets will hopefully be interchangeable and interactive through projection, these are my ‘Blue Prints’ projections projects which I see as examples to works but also living in or on its self, showing the over laps, but also referencing the change of views becoming together.

This last section reflects on colour and material, an extension of what I have been playing with. In the image above there is a plastic bag with a scraping of a paint drip along side colour matching tests to get the right colour or closest colour I could to the drip. This colour I hope will come into these abstracted / material paintings. this idea is still being fleshed out and finalised.

Foot paths edge – house paint on found board

Trees beyond gaps of the green fence – concrete, wall filler, glue, house paint on found board

Fence polls – house paint and wall filler on found board

The white in most parts will hopefully be covered by the green paint responding to the mimicry / camouflaging attempt to blend obvious rails with the natural landscape.
