My practice consists of the natural landscape found alongside and around the Waikato region, dealing with issues around ownership and stewardship of the land within this location. Being of mixed decent, half Fijian/Indian and half European, I start to place myself in the situation of conflict. As an outsider of Aotearoa I feel as if it isn’t my place to answer these issues but possibly question the way that these issues have been approached from a non-bias view point. Having grown up around plants due to a botanist father, I started to become interested in plant species and how ecosystems work, this interest led me to investigate the areas around where I grew up within the Waikato.
This ongoing project is the result of my understanding of the land, and how the land is being treated from my own mixed and outsider perspective.
