David Hockney: The East Yorkshire Landscape

I was fascinated by Hockney’s video works which were a continuation from a previous work Pearblossom highway (1986) that had been a collage of multiple images taken at different angles of a singular area stitched together creating a final landscape image.
The videos take a similar approach to this idea although they look at fewer vantage points, often only seeing a space through a 3-by-3 screen (9 separate videos) which is filmed moving through a single environment.
The exploration of multiple vantage points creating a final skewed image or landscape is an idea which I am interested in engaging further within my own practice, understanding an environment in more than one approach but in multiple. I am curious how these ideas may play out within my studio practice to help my own understanding of the natural ecosystems around me while still being aware of the historical events which occurred before. Focus around looking at an area is also playing a part within Hockney’s videos as each screen is given the same amount of room to play with, not taking away from the overarching experience, details which have been zoomed in on play on the same field of attention in comparison as the wide shots which allow more information of the space in.
