Passages.

Passages is an work which I made for a company’s, within Auckland city, project which I was a part of, reimagining how a company would reuse corflute signs, in the I made a painting depicting an array of areas around auckland which are popular gathering spaces for city dwellers.
In this brief I was encouraged to move away from just the Waikato region and focusing on adding vibrance and pedestrians.

Passages, 840 mm x 295 mm, acrylic and house paint on corflute sheet, 2020

Natural spaces within cities connect people and places both emotionally and literally, they are breathing corridors, breaking up the immensity of towering man-made structures.

Depicted in this work are some of the natural spaces found near the city of Auckland.
Although some spaces appear separate, faint sounds of cars and trucks going by can be heard along with the occasional sounds of construction as new infrastructure gets built. These areas provide areas to relaxing from the fast pace of the city, also providing opportunities to host events which bring people from many communities together.

In effects of what might be happening to these spaces currently, through effects of the Anthropocene such as land loss and building, I attempt to highlight the importance of these natural passages.
