July Seminar

Installed in the new building created an environment to test and view the work in a new space, feedback physically giving back new ideas compared to the digital feedback. I was glad to be in a more serious and professional environment as it allowed for testing and failures.

Tracks

How we track and navigate through Aotearoa is being altered every day from how we treat land. Native forest residing along outskirts of developing rural suburbs will possibly be destroyed for further housing development. Although these spaces appear untouched, faint sounds of cars and trucks going by can be heard along with the occasional sounds of construction as new houses get built. Using salvaged building materials as a surface for painting on, my work references the human impact on the environment through increasing housing development.

A narrow of the Waikato River whose dimensions come from a previous work by Kennett Watkins of the same title. The Waikato River’s flora in this painting mainly shows Kahikatea or New Zealand white pine, as well as Māori people on the river. The past histories here are brought into a contemporary setting revealing the changing environments over time, and destruction of indigenous land.

I use modern track markers which are familiar to the trails and conservation of Aotearoa.
Light plays an important role in studies for visibility used with triangular track markers created by D.O.C. Black tunnels were developed to blend into their surroundings.
